Video: MHI Tackles “The Vanguardist/Spontaneist Binary” & “Overcoming Capitalism” at Left Forum

MHI participated in three panels at Left Forum 2016: “The Vanguardist/Spontaneist Binary and the Marxist-Humanist Alternative,” “Overcoming Capitalism”, and “Human Rights Industry and Commodification of Public Spheres in Iran.” Held in New York City on May 20-22 this year, Left Forum is the largest conference of left academics and activists in the U.S.

MHI sponsored a panel called “The Vanguardist/Spontaneist Binary and the Marxist-Humanist Alternative.” The speakers, in this order, were Ravi Bali, a London housing activist (by Skype); Anne Jaclard, Organizational Secretary of MHI; Andrew Kliman, economist and author; Mike Dola, worker-student-activist.

MHI also featured in a panel entitled “Overcoming Capitalism,” sponsored by Zero Books. The speakers were, in this order, Douglas Lain, publisher of Zero Books; Terry Tapp, author of A Serf’s Journal; Anne Jaclard, MHI; Pete Dolack, author of It’s Not Over; and Andrew Kliman, author of The Failure of Capitalist Production.

 

 

A third panel was entitled “Human Rights Industry and Commodification of Public Spheres in Iran.”  Put on by Iranian left activists, the panel speakers were, in this order, Soheil Asefi, student, journalist, former political prisoner; Arash Kia, scientist, left dissident; Giti Bahrami, researcher and activist (by Skype from Tehran), and comments by Andrew Kliman, author of Reclaiming Marx’s Capital.
