Video: “The Failure of Capitalist Production” at Bluestockings

Andrew Kliman gave the first public talk in New York City on his new book, The Failure of Capitalist Production: Underlying Causes of the Great Recession, at Bluestockings Bookstore on Feb. 6, 2012. The activist bookstore was packed, and many in the audience engaged in the discussion. A video of the event is below.

  1. I’ve read quite a few Marxian accounts of the crisis – from Harvey to Brenner – and I must say that Kliman’s work ranks quite favourable to them. I recommend the book to anyone interested in understanding the current capitalist crisis.

  2. Hi Claudio,

We agree it would be good to have subtitles, but we can’t afford the time to transcribe it and the expense to re-edit the video. If any of our readers want to volunteer to help, we’d be happy to cooperate.

Let me suggest that, for written information on the book, you read the article we have up on the book, the reviews cited in the article, the interviews of Andrew Kliman, and other material written by him on our site and on his own site.

  3. Great talk and I appreciate MHI putting this up.

I’ll just say that it’s very annoying that the person filming this, for some reason, chose to zoom in on Kliman throughout the talk as opposed to allowing the slides to come into the picture. The slides do appear for a couple of seconds but it’s frustrating to be focusing on Kliman when he is referring to specific things on the figures.
